Actually, they are called &quot;Piliated (sp?) Woodpecker.  They&#039;re good guys. They only are after grubs and stuff that thrive in old, dying trees.  You can hear them working from great distance. They can actually drop an old tree ...   their excavations can be so large. I&#039;ve seen 6&quot; chips on the ground. It&#039;s a love/hate relationship.  Regards, and I&#039;m enjoying your photography, &amp; comments. Just discovered your work.
We recently moved from Hockley Valley after 25 years, and now are resident on the Severn above 
Gloucester Pool.</description>
